HOW IT ALL BEGAN

THE INTRODUCTION TO BUTTERMILK SYRUP

In 1983 my wife and I attended a pancake social. “Have you tried this syrup?” she asked. “It’s REALLY good!” I tried it and immediately asked for the recipe. Homemade buttermilk syrup instantly became our family favorite. Whole wheat pancakes topped off with frothy buttermilk syrup became a celebratory breakfast for large family gatherings and holidays.

One morning I made pancakes for my family. I went to the refrigerator and discovered that we had run out of buttermilk. Out came the imitation maple syrup. My children pushed their plates away. Their faces said it all. The high fructose corn syrup simply would not do. It was then that it hit me – this was no ordinary syrup.

THE DEMAND GROWS

THE PREPARATION FOR A GRAND ENTRANCE

Years passed and my immediate and extended family grew. Friends and family guests who came to visit, and there was a lot of them, were treated to a pancake breakfast made complete with buttermilk syrup. The expression on their faces when they tried the syrup for the first time was unfrogettable. The clamor from family and friends for Uncle Bob’s buttermilk syrup grew louder. “Enough!” I said and immediately decided to take this syrup to market.

My son and I spent hundreds of hours creating a shelf-stable buttermilk syrup without jeopardizing the fresh taste. The stories we heard of people lathering their bare toast and chicken sandwiches with our syrup encouraged us to continue forward in search for the right recipe.

In 2016, Harmon’s grocery stores introduced Butter Country Syrups™ to the public. Then in 2018, Butter Country Syrups™ entered in Associated Food Stores. WHY THE SYRUP NAMED AFTER HIM

I come from a BIG family. I’m the oldest of twelve after all. Whenever family of friends stay the night at our home we make a scrumptious pancake breakfast the next morning – it’s tradition. And what are pancakes without buttermilk syrup?

After a couple visits my nieces and nephews would learn that staying at our home meant a pancake breakfast and they soon started referring to the syrup I made as Uncle Bob’s syrup.
